Lindsay McClain, a member of the JfJ Team, received the UT Volunteer of the Year award in April 2008. As explained in a UTK article about her receipt of this honor, The Volunteer of the Year is a rising senior recognized for strength of character and service to the University of Tennessee. A Daily Beacon article also praises her achievements.

As mentioned before, you can read her blog at lindsay.knoxjazzforjustice.org.

New JfJ website back-end

The website of the Jazz for Justice Project is undergoing significant changes. The first and most important is the installation of the Joomla! content management system, which is now complete. The website content is currently being (re)constructed, and an attractive and appropriate template (i.e., the front-end) is being developed.

Thank you for your patience as I improve the website. If you have any questions or comments to make during this process, please use the Contact Us form.

As a final note, some pages still contain invalid XHTML or CSS code. I am working on correcting this to achieve standards compliance as soon as possible.

Student team returns to Uganda
Written by Erin Bernstein
Monday, 11 February 2008 00:00

In January, University of Tennessee students Lindsay McClain, Holly Dagnan, and Ben Miller left for Uganda to continue the work the Knoxville Jazz for Justice Project began on the first site visit in July 2007. The students are serving as interns at the Ugandan Parliament in the capital Kampala, to learn the political side of war, recovery, and humanitarian aid.

Student Erin Bernstein, who traveled to Uganda in July, will join them in March. Until then, she will be writing for UT's newspaper The Daily Beacon and posting her articles on her blog at http://erin.knoxjazzforjustice.org. She is also writing for Episcopalians for Global Reconciliation on their blog. In addition, she will take a group of UT students to Washington, D.C. for the Uganda lobby days on February 24, 25, and 26. Anyone interested in joining Erin should contact her at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

KJFJ founder Dr. Rosalind Hackett and Deaconess Patricia Lynes-Tway will meet up with the team and accompany them to Gulu in Northern Uganda, where they will work with KJFJ's partner and beneficiary, the Northern Uganda Girls' Education Network and take part in educational counseling and art and music therapy projects.
